For as long as I can remember, I have loved to explore. Whether it be new hobby’s, new recipes, new studies or new jobs. Sometimes this all came out of restlessness, but mostly I just liked to know more of the unknown. For traveling it wasn’t any different.
Maybe it was my mother’s “mistake”. All by myself, she sent me from Holland all the way to Canada to visit some family, when I was only 8 years old. That repeated itself at the age of 11, when I went to Ecuador and from then I think I got hooked. In the 20 years that followed I have visited many of the European countries, went to Surinam for 2 months and spent another 3 months on my own in Malawi and Zambia.
Of course, life happened in the mean time. I ended up becoming a holistic massage therapist after 4 years of study, but never found the right way to make a living out of that. Sometimes I struggled. I feel lost and stuck at the same time. I ended up taking a job in a hospital that didn’t match my studies at all. Although I had fun most of the time, in the back of my mind I always knew that this wasn’t the right path for me.
Then I met Martijn and everything changed. Now we loose direction on purpose. This lifestyle can still be a struggle from time to time, but a least we always have the freedom to take another road whenever we feel the need to. Read our story here.
